In the world of web design and development, there are a ton of different Content Management Systems (CMS).  There are many benefits of using a CMS, the biggest one being the ability for our clients to easily update and manage their websites. We have researched and tested an endless amount of these CMS platforms and each one has its positive sides and negative sides. At BNG we ask our potential clients a lot of questions relating to their business to choose the right CMS for their current and future needs.

In the BNG Design world, which is a pretty great world if you ask any of us, we use WordPress as our CMS for a large number of our small business clients since in our opinion and for the reasons highlighted below it is the best tool for the job.  WordPress is one of the most commonly known CMS options mostly because it is used in nearly 18% off all websites currently on the web.

Top 5 Reasons Why We Love WordPress

We LOVE WordPress
There are hundreds of reasons why we love WordPress, but it would become a pretty long list, so I have narrowed it down to the top five.
(Drum roll, please…)

  1. Ease of Use
WordPress easily allows web developers and designers to customize websites for clients to match their brand and company.  It also saves a lot of time for a designer which ends up saving the clients’ money. It’s a win-win situation. It also allows the client to learn how to manage and update their own website, essentially giving them control if they want.
  2. SEO Friendly
A WordPress site is coded in a very clean and simple manner, leaving the site very easy to read.  This is basically a dream come true for a search engine!  Also, each page can be optimized with keywords pertaining to the page, which is a beautiful thing in the SEO world.
  3. Cost Effective Plugins
Plugins allow you to add many unique functions to your website, without paying a developer to come up with a custom fix.  You can integrate any Social Media account, add calendars, or even add a snow storm to your website if you wish (although, we would hold off on the snow, because most of us are pretty tired of looking at it in this region).
  4. Plenty of Breathing Room
BNG Design knows that once you’ve made an investment in your site, it should have the ability to grow with your company. WordPress allows for virtually any size site so if you start small it isn’t a pain to add more pages and allow your site to grow.
  5. Tried and True
WordPress is the most popular and commonly used CMS.  It is constantly getting updated and tested by developers across the world.  Wouldn’t you rather use a CMS that has thousands of support forms and users then something that no one has heard of?  WordPress is not perfect, and there are times where we hit an issue, but it’s reassuring to know we have a wonderful support community to help us out when needed.

Now, don’t get us wrong, we have used other Content Management Systems and we are not at all opposed to using them if it is something our client is familiar with and would prefer to use.   Of course we do not recommend using WordPress for everyone, it definitely has its place just like anything so for clients that need e-commerce options we may want to use WooCommerce an extension of WordPress for simpler stores or Magento for clients that need more flexibility or on rare occasions a completely custom solution for clients that just don’t fit into an existing CMS.

At the end of the day, we want our clients to be comfortable and happy with their website and that is what is important. WordPress is just one of the easiest and well managed CMS platforms on the market. Allowing us to not reinvent the wheel but make it better.
